Here today, Kauai tomorrow

For my birthday a few weekends ago, Jon and I took a quick flight over to Kauai. It is by far our favorite outer island and we really love all the time we spend there. This time we stayed on the Coconut Coast, where last time we stayed on the North Shore. We had such a great time in Hanalei last time that we had to head north to visit one day. We went to the beach at Princeville and had fish tacos at Tropical Taco. It's our favorite place. All they have inside is a few tables and a cash register on a metal stand. The fish used is whatever has been caught that day. The toughest decision is to have the fish fried or not. It's a great place.

We did make a new discovery at a place called Beezer's. It's an old fashioned soda shop in Kapaa. We sat at the counter and Jon had pie made by the Auntie that works there. It was the well-earned house specialty of Pecan Pineapple. Everything in the shop is homemade and wonderful. It's a good thing they don't have scales in Kauai.

We also went to Waimea Canyon, also known as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. It was really amazing. The drive up there envied the road to Hana, which is not a good thing. However, it was worth it when we made it up there. Really beautiful.

Jon spending his time relaxing in the pool. We spent a lot of time just relaxing by the pool and being on vacation, something we don't always get the chance to do. We had the best time just swimming and going down the slide, although we were the oldest people on it by about 10 years.
