Summer Rolls On ...
This summer is really flying by and Landon is really starting to grow up. Aside from leaping out of his crib (video to follow) and his explosion of vocabulary and speech, it's clear that he starting to think of himself as an independent person. Apparently, this is when the fun begins...
We took Landon over to the Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead in Overland Park. There, he was introduced to a variety of domesticated animals: sheep, goats, pigs and cattle. He enjoyed feeding the 'kids' with a small milk bottle. Naturally, he figured it was for him (despite the fact that Landon has been off a bottle for almost a year!)
His new favorite expression is "it's hot?" - for everything! Hot outside, hot drinks, hot food. "It's Hot?" He's starting to tell us when his diaper is wet, when he wants to sleep, when he wants his blanket. It's actually nice to have him express what he wants/needs instead of the usual point and scream (that dominated the first 18 months).
Today he grabbed his shoes, walked up to the back door and said "A Walk?" Naturally, Dad and Mom obliged.
Of course, the headline story is Landon's great escape. On Monday, he indicated that he wished to be placed into his crib for a nap. So, Dad put him in the crib. Next to Landon's room is the office, in which, Mom worked quietly.
With Dad downstairs, Mom heard Landon talking nonsense in his bedroom. The talking increased and became louder. Mom spun around in the office chair to see Landon standing in the office. This came as quite a surprise!
A call out to Dad to come upstairs and bear witness ensued. Mom and Dad placed Landon back in the crib only to watch him endeavor to escape again. Pulling himself up on the corner of the crib, as one might do when leaving a pool, Landon managed to get one leg over the top rail of the crib. Balancing himself on the top, he flung the other leg over and dropped to the floor. It was a spectacle to be sure.
Naturally, this resulted in the immediate conversion of the crib to a toddler bed (a big boy bed, as we call it) and the installation of gates on the bedroom door and top of the stairs. Mom and Dad thanked Landon for his courtesy to perform such a stunt during daylight hours (10am) and not at some other time - say, 3am.
We miss the trade weather ... hope Hawaii is good.
Take care.
